While brainstorming ideas for a handicapped accessible garden I ran into these tanks or troughs. This one is 72" in diameter and 24" tall. The plastic is heavy duty; made to serve as a watering trough for livestock, but the company markets their many uses including athletic hot tub!
I think it would be great as a raised bed garden. Circular garden beds are so cool! If it could be raised on a table or platform of some sort it could be accessible from a wheelchair. I wonder how much a 6 foot tub-o-soil would weigh...
The pictured tank itself weighs 60 pounds and costs about $150 from www.livestocktanks.com. Way more expensive than banging together a square of scrap wood to serve as a raised bed. But they are durable and sturdy, and nice looking. Stackable. Reusable, year after year.
Just a thought.
Here's a video of a garden designed for accessibility. Narrator is... interesting. Most of us gardeners just shouldn't be on the front side of a camera. Except that Jamie guy on the Victory Garden. He's really easy to watch!
But the garden is great!
